Steel
Steel corrodes when exposed to salt and water and for long term performance, it essential to prepare the surfaces well. Abrasive grit blasting or water blasting is recommended to a white metal finish (blast standard Sa2½). Mechanical abrasive discs can be used, but be careful not to polish the surface or adhesion may be affected. Use angle grinders to smooth welds or round sharp edges. Enough primer must be applied to protect the steel against water. So apply all the recommended coats to avoid areas of low film thickness, which will lead to premature breakdown. We recommend a minimum dry film thickness of 225µ (microns or micrometers) of primer for long term protection.
